Hello.

I would have thought a mobile phone is more likely to work on a train with a metal roof than a GPS receiver. Given that GPS signals come mostly from above, sometimes from lower down if the satellite is low in the sky.

I don't see what the age of the train has to do with whether it works, unless older trains had wooden roofs.

Perhaps modern trains have metallic mesh in the window glass forming a 'Faraday Cage' which would block both phone and GPS signals.

I thought it was now a requirement for trains to have voiced announcements of stations?

Mike

Hi Derek,

I am not sure I think your best bet would be to phone them and ask them
direct. If its true, then I was not aware of this.

Hi Sandra
Is it correct that Trekker won't work on new trains.

I ask because I was thinking of having one,
Linked to Braille note. And I was thinking
When on a train, I could then easily use it to find out
What station the train has stopped at.
But I was told it won't work on new trains.

Hi Alfred,
I'm not Jacky, but when I bought my Trekker Breeze in June of this year,
including the post code package it cost me £585 so yes, it's a significant
price drop. Boo Hoo!

Cheers,
Sandra.
