Hello.I would have thought a mobile phone is more likely to work on a train with a metal roof than a GPS receiver. Given that GPS signals come mostly from above, sometimes from lower down if the satellite is low in the sky.
I don't see what the age of the train has to do with whether it works, unless older trains had wooden roofs.
Perhaps modern trains have metallic mesh in the window glass forming a 'Faraday Cage' which would block both phone and GPS signals.
I thought it was now a requirement for trains to have voiced announcements of stations?
