I am not in the habit of forwarding one list's messages to another, but I thought you may all find this of interest. Mike From: Discussion list for disabled students and their support staff. [mailto:DIS-FORUM@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Teresa Pedroso Sent: 02 August 2013 09:59 To: DIS-FORUM@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Disability Exception to the Copyright Law - Draft following from the Hargreave's Review Dear all, Please pass this email to the people involved in producing/sourcing alternative formats/scanning in your institution. The "Disability Exceptions" to the Copyright Act (following from the Hargreaves Review) are now in draft form and the IPO is inviting comments on it. As the base legislation that allows institutions to provide accessible formats, it is important that be aware of this draft and, if possible respond to the consultation. The exceptions are extended to all disabled students (rather than VIP) and cover non-print materials as well. There some areas that require attention such as at section 31B (8) regarding record-keeping (no time limits specified) and (9) to notify each copyright holder when creating an accessible copy. This may have a significant impact in your admin load. http://www.ipo.gov.uk/types/hargreaves/hargreaves-copyright/hargreaves-copyr ight-techreview.htm The deadline for the consultation is Sept 11. Please forward these to any colleagues who may be interested.
