Hello all, If you are a BT Broadband customer, especially if you have received messages recently about needing to log into the BT Yahoo Site every 150 days, this may be of interest to you. Because BT are using Yahoo to run this part of their web-based service, I also raised the issue of not being able to update your Password if you forget your old one, without having to answer a Captcha. As Fiona Miller (of BT says below) there is an audio Captcha, but as discussed on I believe, both of these lists, this is far from ideal especially for those with dual sensory impairments. Now read on, and bear in mind that any suspicions that the message about the rule changes may have been spam are unfounded. It's all perfectly true. Note - I am also concerned that when I rang the BT tech support line, the guys in India told me that if you didn't log into the website every 150 days, you would lose the ability to send and receive mail altogether. According to Ms Miller's message below that is not true, so I shall challenge the fact that the BT Tech support bods may well have given out the wrong information to me on the impact of not logging in periodically. This change has come about as a result of Yahoo upgrading their webmail service. Most customers have already upgraded to the newer BT Yahoo Mail service so will be unaffected by this change. The Classic version of BT Yahoo Mail is ceasing on 3rd June. Customers who have not previously upgraded to the newer version are being asked to upgrade by logging into the webmail service at www.bt.yahoo.com<http://www.bt.yahoo.com>. If however you only ever use an email client, you do not need to worry about completing this process and your use of the service will be unaffected by the closure on 3rd June.. The 150 day rule is being applied along with the closure of Classic mail. Customers can continue to access their emails through email clients such as Outlook Express or Mail for Mac and this will recognise that the email service is being used. So customers using an email client do not need to worry about having to log into the BT Yahoo website to retain their email service. With regard to CAPTCHA, this is a security measure applied by Yahoo and unfortunately BT has no control over its use. It is used when Yahoo detects some unusual log in activity such as log in activity from multiple devices which may indicate a potential security breach. It is, however, likely that if the email account is only accessed very infrequently then the customer may be presented with CAPTCHA. There is an audio option. Information about accessibility of BT Yahoo Mail and compatibility with screen readers can be found at http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/34259/c/346/?s_cid=con_FURL_help/newmail Kind regards, Fiona Fiona Miller Consumer Affairs Manager BT Retail Tel: 0117 302 5047 Mob: 07802 196274 www.bt.com/includingyou<http://www.bt.com/includingyou> MyDonate - BT's new free, online fundraising service for UK charities at www.bt.com/mydonate<http://www.bt.com/mydonate> Think before you print! consider the environment before printing this e-mail.
