here in the north of scotland. I'm cursed with an over-active imagination.

Hello Alison and others,
Firstly apologies to the moderator for the off-topic nature of this reply.
My own personal view is that all these technological advances will change
and enhance our lives. The real breakthrough is when we can replace all
politicians with computers and robots and somehow show religious zealots
(fundamentalists that is) and religious leaders just how wrong and blinkered
they really are.
These are my own personal views and beliefs.

This is absolutely fascinating, even if perhaps a little exaggerated. My
nephew works for a company in Oxfordshire which is researching and
developing batteries for electric cars in an effort to provide more power
but also with greater longevity.
As for living longer - no thanks! My mother-in-law is 96 and is in a
residential home. She has absolutely no quality of life. If we can live till
100 and still have a fit body and mental capacity, maybe, but just sitting
around waiting for God - no thank you!
