[access-uk] Re: Experience of RF ID

Ah. I get it.  So it was more than just an RFID reader; it was also an audio
output device that negates the need for a smartphone.  A useful tool, but it
sounds expensive for the Local Authority.  Our new bus station will have 19
bays, plus there's toilets and shops that could use RFID.  Still, I'll
mention it to them without any caveat.

Cheers

Barry

Think that when the pass was near the reader, the info was spoken.

That's interesting, Richard.  Thanks.  Not sure how the user would get the
info off a pass, but I'll look into this.

I'm not very up on what these can do, but can confirm  that there was a
system in Dundee last time I was there, which involved holding a pass near a
reader in a bus shelter to gain up-to-date info.

Apologies if this isn't relevant.

Richard

Thanks, Phil.  Just to check, is that in the Wolverhampton bus station?

Hi Barry

Although I have not used it, I believe there is a system being used in
Wolverhampton and we are also informed coming to West Bromwich at some
point.  Last time I heard Wolverhampton system was still being tested but
that prior to Covid19.

Hopefully this will assist you.

Phil

Subject: [access-uk] Experience of RF ID

Hi all

There is a new bus station build in my home town.  During a video
consultation yesterday, I mentioned RF ID's to help VI smartphone users
locate facilities and bus stops.  I know how they work in theory, but I was
asked if I knew of where any were actually being used.  I don't.  If anyone
has come across them at a venue, I'd appreciate it if you would let me know
where it was.

Thanks in anticipation.

Cheers

Barry
