OK fine, Steve, actually I did think that so I am not totally stupid but I did want to check it out. Now that said please do understand I am not annoyed in any way. I had a lot of trouble for the past week with my Outlook Express and people on this list very kindly made very helpful suggestions, one of which was that I might well have a corupted file. Indeed I did and this was part of the problem. I kept insisting with BT that they had to sort it out and it took hours on the phone each day and eventually it got sorted but only through persistance. The final person did realize that it was a corupted file that was causing the problem and he addressed it partly. I still could not delete from my Inbox either via the keyboard or the mouse and he tried insisting that my mouse and keyboard must be faulty. However, 24 hours later and today I find everything is working absolutely fine. Now sorry about all that but here comes my question, if I moved to another service provider would I find that they would give me the same type of support as BT? You may wel smile and I cannot blame you but at least I did share computer or whatever it is called and they did eventually sort the problem. What happens with other service providers? Do they offer a similar type service?

Hi Eleanor,

You are slightly missing the point. While you are Eleanor@bt, that's fine. But when you find an internet supplier that is cheaper than BT, then you'll probably change to that provider. In doing so, you will lose your bt Email
address and have to change. This means telling everyone in your address
book, change it on web sites where you shop, and a whole bag of
inconvenience. If on the other hand, you were Eleanor@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,
you could take it with you, whichever provider you choose in the future.

All the best

Steve

Thanks Steve but as a general comment to you and everyone reading this, what

does it matter if I am Eleanor at BT or Eleanor at Eleanor ... I never give

thought to these things. I can understand someone in business wanting it.
Now maybe someone can enlighten me on this. I know Amro said he has his own

too.

Hi Eleanor,

Having your own domain is like having your own personalised space on The
Internet. For example, you could have an Email address of
Eleanor@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or something like that. Note that the domain
must be available for you to have it, but there are plenty of places you
can
check.

Then it doesn't matter which ISP you are with, you could carry your
eleanorburke domain with you. You don't have to have a web site to own
your
own domain, but you can. For example, my web site is
http://www.comproom.co.uk, and my Email address is steve@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hence, comproom.co.uk is my domain. You can have .co.uk, .com, .biz.
.me.uk, .org.uk, .net and all kinds of other types of domains.

I hope this helps.

All the best

Steve

I don't know what Option 3 is, now isn't that dreadful and me paying to
them!!!

Incidentally I presume when you talk about having your own domain Steve,
you

mean that you have your own website also? So someone like me who does
not,
then that is of no value.

Hi Eleanor,

Because I am on Option 3, I got a letter about it from BT. I think it
may
have started, but if not, it starts in April.

All the best

Hi Carol,

Probably not any more now that 0845 numbers are free from BT if you are
on
one of their Option plans.

Hi Alexander,

Oh, I don't remember seeing this number so I've taken it for future
reference. The one I gave yesterday was 01202 5488888. I don't know if
it
still works but, if it does, it may be a cheaper option for some than
the
0845 number.

Hi Peter, carol, Amro and all Eset users,

Following Peters request for help with a number for Eset,
I'm also a user of Eset products, (Nod32 in my case), and I
had reason to contact Eset support by telephone yesterday,
so after reading messages on this thread, I took a look at
www.eset.co.uk and found they do have a support number, it
is 0845 838 0832 I hope that helps.
