Hi Steve,
When you insert the shaver, the business end is pointing downwards into the
cleaner-charging unit.
Below this, inside the unit, is a replaceable container of alcohol and
lubricant. This gets pumped up into the shaver head, which in turn is switched
on after sufficient charge. First time round, you wonder if something is
wrong, but in fact it also being vibrated to loosen the shaver contents. This
gets repeated a few times while the unit flushes out the hairs which are
drained back into the container below.
Eventually as the container becomes saturated with hair, the fluid gets low,
and that’s the bit where the silent amber light comes on to warn you it is
getting low. 2-3 more charges (which I only do every 2-3 weeks) and the red
light comes on to effectively tell you to replace the container and dispose of
it.
I’ve had my Braun for at least 8-10 years, and have often checked to see if it
really is clean – it always appears spotless – or perhaps I should say,
“Hairless” inside.
Just call me if you want more details.

Hi George,
Just one more question then, where does all the hair go when the shaver
self-cleans? Is it just a container that’s easy to empty?

Hi Steve,
Perhaps a bit off-topic, but I guess “access” here is the key.
https://uk.braun.com/en-gb/male-grooming/shavers-for-men/shavers-for-men
Towards the bottom of that page it refers to “Easy maintenance”.
Personally I don’t “clean and charge” daily, preferring to do so less often in
the belief that it lengthens the battery life.
However, if by some chance it does loose too much charge, the mains cable for
the cleaning and charging unit also fits the shaver.
With mine, I just drop the shaver into the charger cutting face downwards,
which will only fit one way, push down a wide button to lock it in place, and
leave it overnight. The unit contains cartridges of an alcohol substance. The
one and only drawback is that it is three lights which go from green to amber
and then red as the fluid dries out.
FWIW, mine also has a push out trimmer for sideburns and such like.
Foil heads and cutters can also be replaced.

Hi,
I’m intrigued by these clean/charge stations. How do they work? Cleaning a
shaver is not my favourite pastime.
George, do you have a link to such a shaver please?
Thanks.
All the best

Importance: High
I personally like the Braun ones with the clean/charge station.
they are far from the cheapest, but do a good and fast job, with minimal
irritation afterwards.
