[access-uk] Re: Echolocation anyone?

Hi,

In my experience, I don't think vision and echo location go well together,
because each try to compensate.  Everyone I have heard of who is good at
echo location is totally blind.  But I may be totally off the wall.

All the best

Steve

Hi Steve. Maybe on a quiet Side street! Definitely not a busy shared area
That's my experience anyway. You've been blind all your life so you are
using your senses much better for that reason  I have constantly been
relying on my residual vision to better orientate myself

Hi,

This is just plain wrong.  It's easy to detect parked cars, if your
echo location is good.

That's impossible I'm afraid!  If you are walking through an Open area
which is shared  spacing! it is very difficult to use echolocation to
determine whether a car is parked near you or not

this reminds of this blind chap who uses this echo location to get

well personally i can hear parked cars on the kerb and the like but i
could never do it without a dog or a cane to me if someone says they
can then they must have some small amount of sight. well or very very good
hearing indeed.

Hi. Did you ever try this app? All I found was a bunch of hype, a
link to a web site with even more hype and some unlabelled buttons.
It takes a special kind of ineptitude to include unlabelled buttons
in an app aimed squarely at the blind.

Hi,

For anyone who wants to have a go with an Android app to train you
to use Echo Location, try this app:-

I haven't tried it yet, but it does intrigue me as someone who uses
echo location already.
