Hello:
The" Epub reader" extension for firefox works very well with  NVDA and is 
easily obtained by searching for epub reader firefox and installing through 
firefox add ons dialogue.

Whereas I cannot offer a solution to read epub files on Windows, there is a 
free application called Stansa which can convert these files to plain text or 
other formats.  The application itself is moderately accessible, however you 
will have to use your screen reader's virtual focus or equivalent function.

A Google search for Stansa epub converter should come up with the website 
address where this program can be downloaded.
