Thought I'd start a new topic here as I'm combining the previous
threads about firmware upgrades and recorders that might be thought
more suitable for some older people.

Someone already said the Milestone 311 does do MP3 recordings, so
thanks for that, and yes, it does, but at 192kbs only. Really that's
a good thing, I'd say, and now card prices are coming down, not really
a disadvantage.

I've just noticed on an RNIB forum the announcement of a firmware
upgrade for the 311 which, amongst other things, improves on its DAISY
playing capabilities.

For a run down of the 311's features you can hardly do better than
visit Brian Hargen's page at:

Finally, here's the info on the latest firmware upgrade.

From RNIB Forum.

Improvements include:
1. Milestone 311 can now use any type of SD card, including the new
High Capacity SD cards now on the market.
2. The Milestone now includes a record pause in the long record
function.
3. The Milestone will now resume playback in Daisy books within the
book you were last reading after going into sleep mode. Before, the
Milestone would resume from the first book on the SD card.
4. Bookmarks can now be inserted much quicker into Daisy books.
5. The tolerance for varying types of SD cards, as well as for Daisy
books which do not conform to the full Daisy standard have been
increased, meaning that you should experience fewer technical problems
when playing Daisy content.

Please send an email to technews@xxxxxxxxxxx for further information
or to request your free upgrade via email.
