Well Peter, I use a set of Bose QC3 headphones while travelling on an
aeroplane and find them to be very quite and comfortable indeed. I've never
tried them on the train nor the tube but I reckon they should be just as
effective then. These are on-ear headphones. I think they are quite small
when compared to other headphones but inevitably they are bigger than
in-earphones. You could check online for better and more in depth reviews.
Not sure this is the kind of headphones you are after but hope this helps a
bit.

Sorry for the re-posting but there have not been any responses. Perhaps my
subject line was too abrupt!
Have been using a set of in ear noise cancelling earphones with my Stream.
These have now failed but I did not think they were particularly effective
in blocking external noise - i.e. on the tube. Any suggestions please.
