Hi Terry
It definitely isn't battery operated, I think the Tap is but then it isn't out
here yet to my knowledge.
Kind Regards,

Hi.
I too am curious as to whether its battery operated.
However i found setting it up with my IPHone really simple.
basically download the alexa app, plug in the dot and hold down the action
button, the one with the dot on, for about 5 seconds, and after a few more
seconds it’ll come at you and tell you its ready.
Then run the app and follow the simple set up instructions.
It’s childs play to get it going in a basic way!
Took me about teh minutes yesterday to get it going!
Today using the web site I’ve done a lot more with it but am also having
reasonable success with the app.
Hope that helps Ian and Merry christmas.

Hi all, like doubtless many others i was given an Echo Dot for Christmas. I
plugged it in last night to charge and it lit up and I’ve plugged it in again
now and it has lit up once again However, as the supporting documentation out
of the box is so limited I wondered whether someone could answer these basic
questions please?
1. Does the dot work without being plugged up to the mains?
2. I’ve tried powering it up when not connected to the mains but cannot
figure out how to do this. Which button turns it on?
3. Is a more substantial manual available from amazon?
4. Will the Dot do nothing if it has not been associated with the
downloadable app?
5. Has anyone managed to set theirs up using the smart phone app as i know
that others have had trouble doing this.
Thanks in advance for any responses.
Ian
