Hi, Adrian is correct in saying that BCS is the awarding body for ECDL. As Social Inclusion Specialist for BCS Qualifications, I am aware of the accessibility challenges for visually impaired students attempting ECDL at a Learndirect centre. When we receive enquiries about this matter, we recommend that a visually impaired student takes the qualification at one of the BCS Approved Centres which offers manual testing. The manual test system is used successfully by blind and partially sighted candidates at the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford, an Approved Centre for ECDL and other BCS qualifications. Test papers in alternative formats (large print, Braille and audio) can be ordered from BCS. The workfiles for the tests show very significant compatibility with both JAWS and Supernova screen reader software. We have worked closely with Sight and Sound (JAWS) and Dolphin Computer Access (Supernova) to ensure that the high degree of compatibility is maintained in step with the release of their new versions. They are advising BCS at the moment on the compatibility of their software with our new v.5 test bank. I recommend that you look at the accessibility resources for visually impaired students on our access to assessment web pages at: http://www.bcs.org/server.php?show=nav.8895. We have over 2000 Approved Centres offering ECDL. Please use the following link http://www.multimap.com/clients/places.cgi?client=bcs_03 to find an Approved Centre in your area. While some may still be using Windows 2000 operating system, most will be using much more recent OS versions including Vista and Office applications including 2007.
