I'm using IE8 with XP Home SP3. One of the applications in question was my subscription to AVG Pro which I have to re-new every 2 years. You don't just buy a new licence, you have to download the latest version again and get a new key for it then. I maybe should have worded my original post a little better.

We're going to need to know which browser and which version, as they
all handle it differently.

One thing I don't understand though - you say about the cost of
updating and "renewing". This rings alarm bells here because unless
you're updating to a totally new application version, updates are
almost always provided free. And I've never heard of a company that
charges for regular updates either. Smells fishy.
