Thanks for the suggestion. I will probably try the talking dialer if no
other suggestions are forthcoming. As you put it, I have no problem with the
principle of the default app - I just find it too sensitive and so find it
difficult to enter the number efficiently.

Hi Peter.
In an ideal world, how would you like your dial pad to operate? you could
try the talking dialer from the eyes free project. you put your finger in
the middle of the screen and drag it up for number 2, up and left for number
1, down and right for number 9 etc. the objective is always to start at the
number 5 and move your finger in the direction of the preferred digit and
lift to dial as opposed to tapping. the link to the app is:
