I would concur that the Olympus LS14 is a lovely unit, I like using it for
outdoor recordings of birdsong on occasions. What I particularly like about
this machine is that I can hold it without background noise from the machine
itself. While the DM7, which I use as an MP3 player, also records well, I have
to be careful not to touch it at all while recording any outdoor sounds as it
picks those up very easily.
I've also seen the LS100 which is the LS14's big brother. It's a lovely
machine, but I can't justify buying one since the LS14 meets all my needs. The
LS series generally has voice prompts, but both the DM5 and DM7 have full
speech capacity, including spoken filenames, which is why I prefer the DM7 as a
music player.
I agree that Neil does some great podcasts on these devices, he's very helpful
at explaining some of the settings you can make.
Finally, Amazon is a good starting point to purchase most of the Olympus range.

I've had several Olympus recorders over the years and use Goldwave to edit my
work. I used your Goldwave tutorial to help me and found it very helpful, I
wish I still had it.
The Olympus-LS-14 is in my appinion , the best of these and you can have a go
at buying one for around £120, and perhaps you will be in luck.
They record a very high quality recording.
However, if you are only talking about recording small lectures or seminars or
notes from yourself, I'd recommend the Olympus, DS50.
You may be able to pick up one of these for about £50, if you are extremely
lucky.
Both of these devices are very good and speak "most" of the commands to you.
Mr Neal Ewars has givin podcasts on both and I have them.
These are very valuable s Neal himself is totally blind and gives you loads of
information as how to access these devices along with a good description of the
buttons, sockets and knobs. Very valuable.
As for other Olympus recorders, I cannot say as the only other one I had was
the Olympus DS 100 which is not that good.
