If the mechanics of the drive are OK then most likely a company will try
removing the drive from its enclosure and mounting it in a regular PC and try
running something like Spinrite to attempt recover of damaged sectors. This
software can do wonders however it is never wise to count on it. If the drive
itself is damaged the prospects for wallet are not very good assuming it is
even possible to repair the drive.

I've just searched for "data recovery dead hard drive" and few pages came up
which talk about recovering data if the mechanics of the drive are still
functioning. Check them out they may be of some help. Good luck.

  Search Google for

There are company who claim do recovery, no fee.

Probably best to start counting your losses.

I damage an external hard drive whilst it was actually transferring data, it
fell on the floor.

I am getting quotes' of hundreds of pounds from data recovery companies.

I can't even bring the hard drive up up on the computer it is so dead.

Any thoughts guys, can today get worse?

  Jeff
