There are still good ones, and they can be very good, but there are bad ones, and they can be very bad. There are pretty much two types of Roberts these days, and the trick is to work out which type each model is!

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the warning about Gemini 3.

The old Roberts Radios with wooden cases used to be some of the best available at their price and Wireless for the Blind Fund used to issue them to their clients. I think I'm right in saying that nowadays Roberts Radios are made in the far east and consequently the quality in every respect is far from what it used to be.

Best.

Robert.

Evoke 2 takes batteries, evoke 1 is mains only. I tried the Gemini 3 and returned it due to very poor quality sound, so be careful with Roberts, believe it or not!

Cheers
Dave

Cannot go too far wrong with the Pure Evoke 1 or 2, the latter is stereo and
hence a little larger which I have. There are a variety of Roberts
portables about, I particularly like the look of Gemini 11 which has
facility to pause the DAB radio broadcast for up to 30 minutes. I haven't
heard of it, but it's resemblance to 70s style Roberts is aesthetically
rather nice.

I don't think that any current DAB radios are much different in operation.
Perhaps look for a large number of presets to make station selection easier.

Hi Folks,

I'm looking to buy my wife a DAB radio for Christmas. Something with good
quality sound that she can carry from room to room in the house and not too
complicated to operate.

Any recommendations?

Best.

Robert.
