What would be the benefit of having an additional desktop, Barrie?

Oops. Yes, I did mean Windows key plus d. Thanks, Alison.
I found something out about using more than one desktop. You can quickly
switch desktops by using the keyboard shortcuts Windows Key + Ctrl + Left Arrow
and Windows Key + Ctrl + Right Arrow. To add a virtual desktop, open up the
new Task View pane by pressing theWindows Key + Tab. In the Task View pane,
click New desktop to add a virtual desktop. If you have two or more desktops
already open, the "Add a desktop"button will appear as a gray tile with a plus
symbol. You can also quickly add a desktop without entering the Task View pane
by using the keyboard shortcut
Windows Key + Ctrl + D.
Cheers
Barry

I think Barrie meant windows key d and not control d takes you to the desktop,
as does windows key m.
Once on the desktop, Barrie is right, pressing the initial letter of your
folder should eventually find it, i.e. w for Word or d for Dropbox.
If I have a folder which I want to access via the desktop, I go to that folder
in Windows Explorer and then hit the context key (or f10) and arrow down to
“Send to” and arrow down to desktop which will create a shortcut to that folder
on your desktop.
Hope this helps.
