Just one thing to clarify please: Could I use one handset to call my wife
on another without having any external caller in the picture?
The info I've seen is rather confusing on this point, because it says,
conference call yes, walky talky no. Any comments would be very welcomed.

Richard, the Panasonic KTXG8561 does everything you want. There's talking
caller ID, intercom between handsets and I haven't yet found a phone to beat
it for sound quality.
Don't know how many handsets you want but you just change the last digit of
the number appropriately.
