Hi Tristram,

The points at which the router and pcs are located are some distance apart.

At present I have a run of 30m cat 5, part of which runs under my garage
roof.

While adding a second run wouldn't be impossible, finding a way to
connect both machines to the existing cable would be preferable.

Regards,
Tim.

If your router has additional Ethernet ports why not sling a second cable
between it and the PC. This is the simplest route. The PCs can then
communicate with each other via the router.

Subject: [access-uk] Connecting 2 Pcs to a single ethernet cable?

Hi,

I want to connect 2 pcs located in the same room to a common ethernet cable,
which currently connects one of the machines to my router.

If I split the connection at the router end using a rj45 splitter, and use
an identical splitter at the other end of the cable would this work? Or is
there a better method?

Best regards,

Tim.
