Hi Roger,

Having replaced a laptop hard drive myself recently, I'd say
he probably is getting quite a reasonable deal. However,
for that money, he should be getting at least a 90-100 MB
drive.

The drives are physically very small, not like regular
drives. Laptops are also very confined spacewise, so not
too easy to work on.

George.

Subject: [access-uk] Compaq Presario 1500

Hi All

My sighted son has a Compaq Presario 1500 laptop. He has a
problem which
means he cannot boot up. He is told he needs a new hard
drive and he has
been quoted between £100 and £170 for this to be done.
Neither of us have
ever done anything to a laptop but are willing to try
providing it's not too
complicated. Also are hard drives for laptops different from
those for
desktops.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Many thanks

Roger

Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.
