Hi, I Generally work with Dell systems every day, so can give some comments: Yes, this system will be ok, but I would seriously consider looking at more memory (256mb is laughable now), minimum 512mb for a starter system probably. There will be no floppy disk with this sytem, and the peripherals will all be USB. You can get a sound card from Dell, but I use the integrated sound and graphics at work with no issues on the models I have serviced. The trick with Dell is that you start out with a system, and by the time you have added bits to it, it is more advantageous to buy a higher spec system which has the features you already selected included. I would assume that there are some people on this list who may have purchased such a system and can advise on any drawbacks or weaknesses they may have found with the Dimension 3000. It is advertised at a very good price of only 291 pounds, so I am a little uncertain about its pedigree because of the low price. I must point out that this machine would be for a person not wanting to use any kind of games or CPU and memory hungry programs. Thanks, in advance, for any comments from those already using such a system or having any specific firm knowledge about their weaknesses or deficiencies to assist my more general knowledge in my evaluation. Please note that the fact that these machines only have onboard integrated video and sound is not an issue, as I can fit basic cards for him myself or get Dell to do this.
