Thanks for this, Amro. You do indeed get the quotation mark. My dad just told
me that it was two dots and I assumed he meant a colon.

Cheers

Barry, to cycle between keyboard layouts you need to press Alt Shift. In your
case hopefully between UK and US keyboard layouts. Now, without going into too
much details, this may or may not work depends on your dads laptop settings but
it definitely worth a try. If UK keyboard isn’t set up on the laptop nothing
will happen. Worst case scenario, your dad will just have to keep pressing Alt
Shift until he is back on the US keyboard layout.

Just an observation, I thought with the US keyboard layout you’d get a
quotation mark rather than a colon when you press the apostrophe key.

For two reasons. The first is that his laptop doesn't have speech on it.
The other is that my dad lives away from me and he isn't very computer savvy
and gets confused quite easily. He knows how to search the internet and
transfer photo's, but that's about it. Still, he must know something more as
he needs his email address for something, hence the @ key. I'll be visiting
him at the weekend and it would be useful to know what I'm doing to explain
properly to him when I'm there.

Cheers

Barry

Why not go into the settings and have a look?
