I dont' thionk the point is that it can fail.  The poitn is how quickly is 
the error responded to and a solution put in place for the client?

Well  one can *never* have a  100% reliable system for internet shopping,
or  internet  banking.

What if  your  computer fails?
What if the phone  service line fails?
And yes  the key  pads could also fail.
