Hey George.
What's a testicular body.
See, the way I see it, if the BBC had any testicular bodies at all, we
wouldn't be having this discussion. But to coin a phrase. The BBC ain't got
and don't seen to have no balls. Their little artsy fartsy producers care too
much about the artistic side of things. But this is an access issue after all
and is well worth discussing on the list. It?s an access issue, an issue for
the blind an inportant issue for the blind. Its so easy for others to say,
take it off list. But I really don?t' think this is fair.I for one enjoyed
the thread and want to hear what goes on in the future. I don?t' want to sse
the instigators being told to take it off list. Yes, I'm in Canada. But I
still saw this documentary. And I saw it like the guys in the UK saw it, all
potatoes and no meat and I hate folks telling me to, quote, get over it.
Peter

Hey guys. Let's stop here!

We can debate this subject all year if you like, but Auntie Beeb obviously
ain't going to listen to tiddly squat individual.

As I have already suggested, please take this issue to the RNIB and see if
you can squeeze any testicular bodies there, That is what they are there for.

I'm sure we shall ALL be interested in hearing the responses from your
approaches to RNIB, especially those who are members. (And if you are not a
member, it might just pay you to join!)

Her is what the RNIB say at:- (Careful about URL wrap - it should end in
".hcsp)

Joining RNIB is all about getting closer - to information, to other members,
to all the services that RNIB has to offer.

If you want to hear about people who have had the same experience as you,
want to get information more easily and have hints and tips to share with
others, then membership is for you.

More than 10,000 people have already joined us, most of whom have a sight
problem. Members join to receive up-to-date information to support them in
their daily lives and to get involved in the work of the organisation. Find

I hear what you say Carol, just that, if the Beeb is going to say a flat NO
to on-air voice-over, then we have to take part in a debate about
alternatives. Distribution of DVDs or videos hadn't struck me as an
alternative, and there would be a time lag, so we could hardly join in
popular discussion of programmes that are hot public issues. I'd have
thought that at the very least we should be looking to the voice sub-channel,
and/or the internet, for starters.

I do agree though, that the Beeb's, or independent production companies
responses thus far are grievously inadequate.

Well, Ray, I can only speak for myself and maybe Mike. We both want to see
that programme, with some voiceover, even shown again or sent out to those
who ask in some useable format.

How they do it is their problem. We just have the right to see it like
everyone else!

Well Barry, Carol and others, I've been following this thread but I am sort
of losing the thread too! What is it that is being demanded to meet our
needs, re. subtitling of programmes? Are we demanding voice-over always be
used?
Or, maybe, an alternate transmission with voice over for those like us - and
others - who cannot follow the very fast changing subtitles? Or, again,
maybe that the audio-description channel be used for this purpose? (Even
though not gvery many yet have access via the Netgem and other devices.

To me it speaks volumes that the deaf community are, or seem to be, far more
readily accomodated than we are. Makes me think that blindness and its needs
are a real no no for those who, elegedly, have such good aesthetic
sensabilities.
You would have thought the Beeb, public service broadcasting and all that,
would at least make a real effort to do something along the lines I've
mentioned above. Ray
