We appreciate it, Ian.

All we want is to see that programme with some speech over . . ..

I don't want to settle until I get that, even if they have to do it now
for a group of us!

Hi Carol,

The response you received is completely inadequate and totally
inappropriate in terms of its content and its language. I'm pleased to
note it came from en employee of capita and not someone from the Beeb
directly. However, since they represent BBC views, you can be certain
my dander is now up and I'll be pursuing this relentlessly. I'll keep
the list posted as to what happens.

Cheers now.

Ian

Yep, I got one today and was just sorting it out to send when I saw your
message.

I'm not too pleased either because it seems there's just no way for us
to see that programme now. As it was on at a special time, it's
probably not going to be repeated and, even if it is, we won't
necessarily have anyone to read for us at that time.

What does anyone think about this idea about the DVD's? That's not
going to solve our problem either is it, even if we did find a
reasonably accessible DVD player!

Anyway, here's the response I received.

Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Children of Beslan'.

I note that you were unhappy there was no form of translation of the
children's speech other than a written wording onscreen, thus preventing
those who suffer from blindness or other disabilities to follow what was
being said.

Please be assured that your comments on this matter, along with your
concern that you did not receive a response as stated when you initially
phoned BBC Information, will be fully registered and made available to
programme makers and indeed senior management within the BBC. Feedback
of this nature helps us when making decisions about future BBC
programmes and services and your views will most certainly play a part
in this process.

In relation to your other requests, transcripts of the programme cannot
be provided and as copies of this programme are not commercially
available, for copyright and contractual reasons we are unable to supply
a one-off copy.  Our copyright agreements only allow broadcasts;
duplication and distribution of programme tapes has to be negotiated as
a separate commercial agreement.

However, if you would like to make a suggestion for the programme to be
released on DVD, can I advise that you put it in writing to the
Commissioning Editor of BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC,
at:

Hmm, it seems BBC Information have no real influence here.

This is my response that I got today. It looks very much like a form
letter
with a bit thrown into it.

"Dear Mr Toner,

Thank you for contacting BBC Information regarding your concerns about
Children of Beslan which was broadcast on BBC TWO on 30 August 2005. I
was sorry to learn of your disappointment in not being able to watch the
programme.

I understand you received a copy of my correspondence sent to another
individual regarding this matter. I note you concerns and I have raised
this matter with Fiona Stourton again. However, she has nothing further
to add to the response you have already received.

Thank you once again for contacting BBC Information.

Yours sincerely

Crispian Cousins"

Aint it grand?

Carol did you ever get a response?

Dj Paddy
