Many thanks, cracked it! I reset my settings, and now Alex works a treat,
and I can change the voices easily. I don't know how these things get
muddled, but this worked.

All is well here on my iPad Mini with Retina 128 GB. I am able to
download and change voices at will. Try one of the resets ensuring you
have a backup first.
