Fair point Andy. Actually come to think of it my previous Comby did have a clock mounted on the wall. Oh well!

Eleanor - think it's like I said, it probably can't be done to a built-in timer clock on a combi. When I had it done, the timer clock was fitted inside a kitchen cupboard, and the engineer just disconnected the old visual one, and connected up the one with Braille markings, it was just a case of wiring, no plumbing. I can't see how an integral timer could be replaced. Sometimes, we just have to have sighted help, that's part of our humility -

Following this thread I have a gas boiler and someone set the time on it for me but when the clock changes I am then one hour out. Now I am interested in the Braille timer but do not know how that would fit in with my system. How is it connected to it?

I have one of these timers and have used it for around ten years. It works
very well.

Hi. No it isn't. The timer being talked about is purchased as a timer and
thermostat in its own right. See below.
                   John.
Subject: [access-uk] Talking central heating controler

This is for Jackie's benefit. It is not a talking device but it may well
fit the bill.

Danfoss 4033 24-Hour Mechanical Programmer TIMED/OFF/ON (Constant) for
heating and same for domestic hot water.
Off and On override.
this switch is available from danfoss randall ltd of bedford.
they do a braille version which is very accessible. it has 2 switches,
one switch for hot water, the other for the heating system. they are
clearly brailled, one with h for heating, the other w for water. each switch
has 3 positions, off, on and timed.
there is a rotary dial with dots around it, a little like a braille
watch.
there is a reference dot so you can use the rotary dial to enable you to set
the 24 hour clock. there are 4 colour coded tappets, 2 red 2 blue, one
set for each function, namely heating and water. simply slide the
tappets to the desired on/off times. the tappets are also marked with
tactile markings, a series of different numbers of dots.I think you may
have to specifically request a braille version of the timer. this
switch is very well designed for a blind person to use.
I would suggest giving this company a ring before purchasing, and asking
them if it will work with your particular heating system. They have a
wide range on offer, and do not forget to ask them if they can supply a
Braille version if this is required. Details as follows.

The simple answer is no as the timer that is being talked about is
installed on to a boiler system.

Hi all.
Would this work for electric storage heaters that run on economy 7?
Many thanks.
Take care.

Hi, yes there is. It's a braille one, not a talking one. You won't be
spolt for choice. I should think, if this one's still available it's
going to be the only option. I got mine a few years ago, following a
thread on here. I no longer have the email, but you can look it up in
the archive. Just put in central heating in as a search term and look
through the posts. The link to the archive is
