My wife is my carer and she claims Carer's Allowance and gets lower rate DLA so
I would say Yes go for it. You won't get if you don't at least ask.

Hi all.
I'm a total, and hearing impaired and 64 years old.
I get DALY which pays for my transport into the community and for a carer, a
couple of days a week, to help out in other ways.
My wife is a nurse and we need her pay to pay for bills etc.
My 88 year old Mother in law moved in about 12 weeks ago.
She's also total with MD and suffers from Dementia and is also very frail.
My Mother in law uses all of her DALY to pay for a carer from 10 am to 5 pm
and through the day, the LA has arranged another carer to get her up in the
morning, give her lunch at 1.00pm then put her to bed at 7.00pm.
My wife comes home from work around 7.30, walks the dogs, makes dinner and
retires to bed.
So from 7.30pm to 7.00am, I am my mother in laws carer. - Night shift if you
like.
It's very difficult to manage and I'm really struggling, but a friend in the
village thinks that I should apply for Carers Allowance.
I don't think I'd qualify as I already get DLA, middle rates for myself, so
how can I possibly be a carer. Odd but true.
So after my ramblings, do you think if I contacted Action for Blind People,
they would support and help me with an application for the Personal Care
benefit?
Sorry guys for the rather lengthy message, but any advice would be very, very
valuable.
