Alexander, Yes, the version from the maker's website is free, and yes it's more up-to-date. The JFWlite one is version 1.4 while the maker's website offers 1.61. Don't ask me what the differences are, all I can say is that both are accessible with all the screen readers and magnification systems I've tried it with.
