Hello, 5th generation iPod Touch? I think iOS 10 works on 6th generation only?

Hi List.
After I updated my iPhone to iOS 10.3.1 back in April I, like many others,
lost access to the planner section of the Sky Plus app. So, baring this in
mind I purposely didn't invite the update onto my iPod so as the app on that
device would remain unaffected. I've been happily using my iPod 5th Gen ever
since to do all my Sky related viewing etc. So far so good.
However, I've turned on my iPod today to discover that an iOS update is
sitting there ready to be installed! Its the start installation screen you
see at the beginning of a new update installation. I didn't do anything to
start this process, but nevertheless, there it is, sitting, waiting ominously
for me to start down the road to losing my planner access!
Is there anything I can do to stop this update? Or am I now simply stuck with
no other option than to proceed with the update and lose access to my much
used Sky Plus planner, until such times that is as Sky get around to sorting
it?
Its been so long since I used the remote to do this kind of thing that I've
more or less totally blanked on what keystrokes I need to playback recording
using that method. In the event that my, all be it, temporary doomsday
scenario has come to pass, could someone please give me a crash course on
accessing recordings on Sky Plus HD boxes via the remote?
Thanks to anyone who can provide any help re the above.
