That is what I'm thinking too, the little local retailer of electricals is more
likely to be amenable to a quick and dirty accessibility test.

Hi janet, Yes, they first checked the instructions, then, horror of horros,
plugged it in! Not sure if somewhere like Currys would have done it though!

Hi Richard, much as I agree with you in regard to talking products I wonder
whether they would let you check them out to see whether they bleep or not
because I bet you anything they wouldn't know. Janet

Carol,
Most of the so-called inaccessible touch screen microwaves are, in my view,
much more precise than many of the dial types, and easily marked with Tactimark
by a sighted person.
Ours is a Sharp (probably not made now), but which enables me to use microwave,
grill or fan oven, and select precise temperature and timing to within ten
seconds.
The only thing which you'd perhaps need to remember is that having a screen
which beeps when a control is pressed is really important, as you do need to
know when an entry has been accepted. So, for example, to microwave something
for two and a half minutes, I press the minute dot twice (and get two beeps)
and the 10 seconds mark three times then press start.
I certainly don't see the necessity for most people who have been blind for a
while to spend so much on a talking product when it isn't necessary in my view.

Hi all,
I'm wondering if Cobolt are still selling their LG microwave at its rather high
price, which has been a runner for a number of years now, or have they found
something newer?
Has anyone recently bought a microwave without speech where all functions are
pretty useable for a totally blind person?
Thanks for any info.
