Carol, I would recommend a damp, not wet, cloth. Some people prefer a totally dry cloth, and others use special cleaning fluid, but I would not recommend that. It can be messy and the results are no better than a good polishing with a good quality cleaning cloth. I've never normally needed to do anything more than that, but there are a lot of cleaning items to be had, where you play them in the CD and listen to something as they clean, or get messier stuff to do the job. As far as I know, dipping a CD in cool water or using a soft cloth that won't scratch should be fine.
