Many thankss for these comments, Sandra.   Like you I have a healthy respect 
for the 
registry - always very suspicious of those programs which claim to clear out 
duplicate and 
redundant entries - having my fingers burned once was enough!

I just ran the CCleaner Analyse with everything at default settings - except 
that I unchecked 
Cookies as there are some (e.g. bank sites, Gmail etc.) which I don't want to 
lose.   It reports 
a staggering 800 mb plus which it could delete.  Will have to try to pluck up 
the courage to do 
the deed!
