Chris just go to www.serotek.com and go to downloads and then click on a 30 day trial. If you have any problems then e-mail support@xxxxxxxxxxx and there is also a mailing for System Access.

The subscription address is talk-serotek-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and put subscribe in the subject field. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Hallsworth" <christopherhallsworth71@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

I know there's System Access to Go but what are the other options? Even if it's a trial I wouldn't mind playing with it.

Switch to System Access folks and you don't have to be ripped off by FS. I have heard so much bad press and reviews from former users. With System Access you can license any two machines of your choice and can reset the license at your leisure and the tech support is great as they talk to you as if your a human being and will spend hours solving your issues if required. A fair few users have already made the switch and reported good reviews to the System Access users forom. ----- Original Message ----- From: "George Bell" <george@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

I don't see what's unclear. Contact any JAWS dealer and they will
tell you that if you have JAWS Standard, you must first work out the
cost to bring it up to the latest version of JAWS standard, and then
add £153.75 which is the cost of converting from JAWS 10 Standard to
JAWS 10 Professional.

Prices are listed at
http://www.sightandsound.co.uk/prices/jaws-upgrade.php

George.

Hi Jackie,
That's the whole point... FS don't make clear
an upgrade path from JAWS standard to professional so I think people
are stuck with buying a new license. If there is such a path, FS
should make it a lot clearer IMO, but I don't want to go off on a
rant.

Hi Catherine

I'll try to answer a few of your questions.

You can still get machines running XP, but the majority of High Street
shops only appear to offer Vista. I've got both running on a desktop
and laptop respectively, and while there are a few things I'm not so
keen on with Vista, it certainly does the job and is perfectly
accessible with screen readers.

I've got an Epson Perfection 1240U scanner and Samsung ML2150 printer,
and both run perfectly under Vista, and are probably classed as
"ancient" by today's climate. They've both served me so well for
years
that I haven't wanted to upgrade either.

JAWS Standard will work on Vista Basic and Vista Home Premium, as well
as XP Home. JAWS Professional is required to run on Vista Business,
Ultimate or Premium, and XP Professional. I'd have to check the
upgrade
price from JAWS Standard to JAWS Professional for you as I can't
remember it offhand.

You can run MS Office under Vista too. I've got 2003 Professional,
and
it's fine.

As regards make and model of laptop purchase, I would simply recommend
keeping away from the very bottom of the range, simply because
graphics
tend to be integrated, and RAM is less. I've had my HP laptop with
Vista Home Premium for almost 18 months, and I'm still very pleased
with
it, even if it is big and has a numeric keypad. I bought it from
Comet,
but just because it was the spec I wanted at the time and Comet
happened
to be the place! I'm sure everyone will have a good website or place
to
recommend.

Good luck.

Subject: [access-uk] Buying new laptop help please

Hi,

My laptop has been struck down with some mysterious corruption or who
knows what problem for the second time in less than a year and so I've
decided it's time to buy a new one. I wonder if people could help me
with a few questions. I'm on my Braillenote with dialup at the moment
so can't do much research, but I can use e-mail.

Firstly, is it still possible to buy anything with Windows XP on it
and
is there any logical reason why I would want to? Are there hardware
compatibility issues with Vista? I have an Epson Perfection 1650
scanner and an HP Deskjet 460 printer and would really rather not have
to buy new ones. I assume only JAWS Pro will work on Vista? I'm
pretty
sure I have JAWS pro and not the other one but how can I find out? It
doesn't say in braille on the CD case--will it say in print? And if
it's
not the professional edition how much is buying the professional
edition
going to set me back? Can MS Office 2003 be installed on Vista?
I also use Replay AV recording software. If anyone here uses it do
you
know if they have a version for Vista?

Does anyone recommend any particular makes or models? And if so why?

Regarding shops, I know people hate PC world and I certainly don't
rate
them myself. But I need to get a new laptop ASAP and there's a PC
World
in my town with long opening hours. If I know exactly what I want to
buy before I go in there is there any reason to avoid PC World? Do
people recommend any other particular shops which have stores
nationwide
(if you're feeling particularly kind you could tell me whether they
have
a shop near Colchester, Chelmsford, Ipswich or Norwich).
anything people think I need to think about I haven't already
mentioned?
I plan to use the computer for average wordprocessing, spreadsheets,
browsing, k1000 and a bit of stream capturing and sound editing.

Thanks for any help you can give,
Catherine
