Hi Jackie -

Just had an email from Neil Burge confirming what you say, informing that it could take 7 days for FS to upgrade the authorisation! This should be made clear somewhere, but there's nothing on the S&S website about it, and the FS website actually confirms activation as successful without giving any feedback that it may take some days for the activation to take affect.

Neil also informed me that other aspects that I raised regarding the S&S website, such as the clickable unlabeled graphic images will get fixed. He's asked me to pass on anything else that doesn't appear right about the site, so if anybody else has noticed anything, please let me know, not that we should have to test the website for S&S, but there it is, that's why I call it shabby! -

Hi Andy

If you have just bought your upgrade, it might be that it hasn't gone
through at FS as yet. You know how paranoid they are over there? Let
Technical Support know about this, but I suspect it is because you have just
made a purchase that hasn't been clerically sorted out somewhere in the
States.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Hi Jackie -

Thanks for this confirmation. I've since had emails from Neil Burge
acknowledging this problem, and it has now been fixed, so something has
improved, that's good.

I've now bought my upgrade, and now can't get the darn activation to stick!
I get told my activation has been successful, and click the finish button,
only to have JAWS pop up and tell me again that it is running in 40 minute
demo mode, and to activate my purchase. Each time I have tried, my 20 digit
code is automatically placed in the edit field, so all seems to be ok, but
like I say, going round in circles here, and rebooting doesn't make any
difference either.

Any thoughts? -

Andy

Hi Andy

The upgrade from 9 to 13 was certainly £330 when I worked there, even
though
13 wasn't out then. I can confirm this because if you upgrade from
certain
increments onwards, it becomes £330 for JAWS Standard and £460 for JAWS
Professional, even though it is the same download.

The only way I can suggest you overcome your problem with the shopping
basket is to go into Internet Options and delete all your cookies,
temporary
files etc. That should empty the bloody basket once and for all. I know
you shouldn't have to, but I have seen it on a website where, no matter
what
you do, it puts the item back in when you have already deleted it, thus
adding your total incorrectly.

If you are unsure, my advice would be to ring them and upgrade manually
over
the phone, that's what I always do.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Subject: [access-uk] Buying JAWS from Sight and Sound

Hi all -

I'm revisiting this topic from a few months ago, when I was considering
upgrading my JAWS from version 9 standard to the latest standard version.
At
the time, when I tried to add the upgrade to my shopping basket, I saw
there
was already another product in the basket that every time I tried to
delete
it, the upgrade got deleted too, thus giving me an empty basket. I've just
had another go, and this time when I added JAWS9 to 13 upgrade to my
shopping basket, found that already in there was something called White
Large Lowercase Keyboard priced at £330, the same price as the JAWS
upgrade.
This then showed me as having a basket total of £660!

I think this is disgraceful practice, but not only that, it is very
confusing given the way the website is set up. For example, when I click
on
the remove link for the keyboard, the value of my basket drops from £660
to
£330, but the actual item [this white keyboard thing] still shows up as a
quantity of 1 in my shopping basket. I'm reluctant to proceed with my
purchase from this point, as I really don't know what I'll be charged for
in
the end.

And oh yes, I tried accessing the sight using a demo version of JFW12 as
well.

Many of us have our gripes with this company, and have voiced them on this
forum, but they seem to take little notice, even though members of it's
staff view this list.

It appears that the cost of an upgrade from 9 to 13 standard is £330, but
I'm not certain about that given what happens when I tried to add it to my
basket.

It would be nice if S&S would actually take some notice of it's customers, we can't all be wrong about it's service, and just because there is little
competition it doesn't mean we'll allow ourselves to be shabbily treated.

Andy
