Its got nothing to do with code or size of an image. It has everything to do
with picture quality. A thumbnail pic is simply a lesser quality copy of the
origianal. To do this you will need a picture editor and a little knowledge
of that software. If you have photo shop, you might want to check into its
help files on generating picture sample quality. It won't be enough to
simply shrink the size of a photograph, using the height equals and width
equals attributes. Though this process will work, these pictures will still
load as slowly as full quality images and take up just as much resources,
because basically, although small in size, they are still full quality
images, shrunken in size. So, what you need is to shrink the quality, not
the size.
