I have a bit of good news on this one at last.
This morning I tried accessing the Microsoft hotfix request page for
this fix in Firefox rather than in Internet Explorer and I tried
using the Webvision plugin capture solving gizmo on the visual
verification and it worked! It told me it had submitted it and then a
couple three seconds later I was told the resolved capture had been
added to my clipboard and was ready to paste into the appropriate
edit box. It was so smooth! This was the first time this capture
resolving thing had actually worked for me but I was thrilled!,g>
I then received the hotfix by email in a password protected
self-extracting archive that needs to be downloaded and extracted
within a week after requesting it. I did this and tried to apply the
hotfix only to be told that there was no need for me to install the
hotfix as my service pack (sp3) was newer than the fix. so I still
have the problem but at least was able to request thehotfix all by myself.

I'll fiddle around with this some more and report back with you guys
if I do get the problem fixed.
I had deleted all those user lexicon files and stuff befoer btw.
