Thanks Henry
Re-formatting the USB stick solved the original problem of the Boombox not
playing the fiels but I think the current problem I now have is a faulty
battery.
The files will play whilst the Boombox is connect to my computer but nothing
happens when it is disconnected.
As a last resort I am now trying to recharge the device using a USB plug. I
guess that if this fails too I will still be able to demonstrate the device,
I will just have to remember to take my usb plug to connect it.

Hi Alison
A few years ago we had a boombox and couldn't play MP3 files. I was told
that the USB stick capacity I was using was too large for the device-don't
ask me why, so I used a 2 GB USB stick and the files played with no
problems.
Just another avenue to investigate if you have no success.
Best wishes
Henry

I suspect you are right, Steve, but will give it one last try.

Hi,
Could be that the battery is just shot then if it doesn't work.

There is a battery in it, Steve. I am going to try charging it up from a usb
charging plug and see if that works.
It is an old one given to us by Torch for the demonstration so it may just
be old and faulty.

Hi Alison,
Make sure the battery is in the boombox. It comes separately in the box.
If it isn't, it will only work when on charge.

The formatting of the USB stick was to blame, Steve, so thank you for your
suggestion.
The Boombox now plays the radio and the tracks I have put on the USB stick,
but only if it is connected to the computer. I'm hoping this is just a
charging issue.

Yes, probably the MP3 is in a weird sampling rate. Check in Properties of
any of the files.
Also, make sure the USB stick is formatted to Fat32 standard, it won't work
if they are NTFS formatted.
All the best

Subject: [access-uk] Boombox
Nextweek I am helping with a presentation on behalf of Torch and they have
given me some pieces of equipment to show, one of which is a Boombox. I have
copied some hymns onto the USB stick to demonstrate how sight impaired
people might use such equipment to access religious material, but, although
I can get the radio on the Boombox to work, I don't seem able to play the
USB memory stick.
I know many people use this device to access talking newspapers. Are these
not in mp3 format then?
Does anyone have any ideas why the memory stick isn't playing?
Alison
