I thought some of you might be interested in the eBook website I have found.
Baen.com is a provider of eBooks and apparently Audio Books, though I have only
tried the eBook service.
The site seems to focus particularly on the Science Fiction and Fantasy Genre
so will be of interest to people who like that. As this is an area that the
RNIB Talking Book catalogue have been weak on it is useful.
The site is commercial though there are some free offerings on there.
Refreshingly all the eBooks sold there are without copy protection and can be
downloaded in 7 different formats, including htm, rtf, mobi, and ePub.
They are ideal for reading therefore on iOS and Android using using Voicedream
Reader. The ePub versions will also play in the Victor Reader Stream and
Pocket Plextalk without issue. The ePub book I bought also loaded fine in QRead
and the Speak On eBook Reader app on my PC. Presumably it would also play fine
in iBooks on a Mac.
The site as far as I can tell is pretty much 100% accessible on both Mac using
Voiceover and Windows using Jaws and I suspect any other screenreader.
The only minor glitch I found that there is one unlabelled checkbox on the
registration page at the bottom which is almost certainly a agree to terms and
conditions checkbox which you need to check to complete your registration.
The option to receive newsletters is labelled and yu can check or uncheck this
as desired.
When registering jump down to change the country from USA to UK and the need to
enter a State will disappear.
I was able to use PayPal to buy my eBook without difficulty.
You can check it out on
