Hi Carol
I did have sighted help just to make sure I Didn't make mistakes, however once
tried it probably would be easy enough on your own. It's perfectly accessible -
I seem to remember that I wasn't able to read the final screen telling me how
long it would take, but that was with Jaws 8 and it's probably more accessible
now. (I used the program last September so they might have updated it to make
it inaccessible but I don't think so.)
It does a pretty good job - Google some of the reviews of it. I found my new
machine a bit sluggish at first but I think this was because I allowed the old
machine's startup options to run - this was an option just after transfer. When
I stopped this from happening and allowed the new machine to run its own
startup then things worked well.
In general it's good - you really only have to reinstall virus programs as they
should not be running during transfer. One or two programs with Keys may need
reinstallation e.g. Jaws. Personally I was impressed but I much prefer to load
a machine from scratch to avoid any problems or conflicts. I ended up doing so
because I felt happier, but really the program did what it said and in a 3 hour
period my transfer was done and most of the programs worked without having to
reinstall.
I should say I was transferring from XP home to XP home, but the program says
it can effectively transfer between XP and Vista., but not back the way.
The program allows you to choose all programs or just one or two. This could be
good for someone who's lost their CD key and wants to put the program onto a
new machine.
The program's downloadable from the Laplink website and costs about £30 for a
licence - it does save much effort and time. Serif had copies of the program on
disk for £10 recently - although it was a slightly lower version it allowed you
to download the latest version from the site when you started to install. It
helps to have both machines connected to the internet as licences need to be
checked - it's still possible to transfer if one or two machines are not
internetted.
The program allows you to restore things if you aren't satisfied.
Hope this helps.
Gordon

  Gordon,

Were you using it with speech and alone, without sight? I thought you had to
reinstall most programmes rather than moving them, so are you talking about
moving just your data or also programmes?

  Interested ...
