Hi there

I use Supernova from Dolphin and none of the controls have ever been
scriptable. We have a shortcut that takes us to the flash area of the page
but we have never got any further than that.

Regards.

Subject: [access-uk] BCAB & the I-player.

Good evening,

I've been watching the thread on the BBC I-player with interest.
It's obviously a matter of some concern, so I'd like to respond on behalf of
BCAB.

To the best of my knowledge, this matter has never been raised with
the BCAB board. We've therefore never considered a campaign, or asked our
members for support. It is possible that BCAB members have spoken about this
individually, but it's never been discussed formally with the association.

That said, it's safe to say that we're aware of it now. In the first
instance, I'd like to put together some more definitive information, so BCAB
can consider how best to approach the situation.

We already know that the RNIB are working with the BBC to resolve
some accessibility concerns. Specifically, they're working towards
introducing audio description into the I-player. If BCAB can support RNIB in
any way, we'll certainly do so.

Returning to the collection of relevant information though, I
understand there are four main problems:

 1. The lack of audio description.
2. The inaccessibility of the volume control.
3. The inaccessibility of the jump commands.
4. Information relating to the I-player is either inadequate or missing.

Leaving aside the first point for the moment, it would be helpful if
you could answer some or all of the following questions:

1. Is the above list an accurate summary of the problems with the I-player?

2. If not, what other problems are present?

3. What is the complete list of functions or controls that are inaccessible?

4. Do each of these problems occur for all screen reader users, or just for
people using one type of reader?

5. Are there any problems for people using screen magnification?

6. Are problems two and three related to the absence of keyboard shortcuts?

7. Were keyboard shortcuts available in previous versions of the I-player?

8. What information or help is missing?

9. What could be done to improve missing or inadequate information?

Please be assured that I'm familiar with the DDA and related
obligations. At this stage, I'm only interested in concrete facts that will
help BCAB make an informed decision and provide practical and tangible
recommendations.

For the sake of the list, please email me directly to
secretary@xxxxxxxxxxxx Any help you can give will be much appreciated. Thank
you.

Regards,
Léonie.
