I was recently forwarded the below info from my local Eye society,
asking whether I would like to participate in a survey that the BBC
are undertaking involving those who use a Screen reader such as Talk
Back and BBC iplayer on Android phones only to evaluate accessability
for those with Android phones.
I gather people are require ASAP as they would like to conduct the
survey sooner rather than later.

It was nice to talk to you before Helen, thanks for giving me the
opportunity to put this proposal forward to you.
BACKGROUND
The BBC are testing the suitability of their iPlayer using a screen
reader on mobile devices. The iPlayer team is split very granularly,
so there is a specific mobile team, then within that there is an
iPhone team and an Android team.
We have already carried out 1 round of testing, we got great iPhone
participants and some great feedback. For Android users we struggled
to recruit them, those we saw were visually impaired and although they
did use a mobile and a screenreader, when it came to interacting with
the iPlayer they all chose to use what little vision they had, none
had ever used a screenreader to interact with the iPlayer. Although
this in itself provided us with valuble feedback, the Android team
were disappointed, that for them, they had not seen one user interact
with the iPlayer in the way they needed for their research.
WHERE WE ARE NOW
So we’re back out on the hunt for new participants for Android only.
In normal circumstances we use a recruitment company to find these
participants however, even after a second try we have found just two,
both are visually impaired, so I fear we may end up in the same
situation again.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
• So, we’re looking for two experienced Android mobile screenreader
participants, with no useful vision (we need participants to rely
solely on a screenreader and not to aid what vision they have).
• They need to use an Android phone using either VoiceAssist or Talkback
• They need to have a BBC iPlayer account (which they already have and
not just for this session)
• They need to use iPlayer on a mobile using a screenreader
WHAT WILL HAPPEN
The session will be a series of tasks carried out over 60 mins on a
one-to-one basis with a facilitator from Sigma. The sessions will be
recorded. This will allow the Sigma and BBC researchers to study the
usability of the app without distracting the user from the tasks.
WHERE WILL IT HAPPEN
We can do one of two things; the participant can come to our
Macclesfield office, there will be an incentive of £80 per participant
and an additional £20 if they require a chaperone. This would be our
preferred option as we can have all our equipment set up ready to go.
If we need to, to get the right person, we could do a home visit. This
would involve possibly two consultants traveling to the participants
home. This may extend the session time as we would need time to set up
and pack away. We could offer a £50 incentive for this option.
