that was where I started.
The problem is that sight is only available on a PC not through a smart TV which are pre-set for I-Player between the manufaturers and the BBC.
I hope you are right and I am wrong after a weekend of trying.

Not sure I'm following this - AD has been on iplayer since 2009 as per
this BBC blog post http://goo.gl/F1XER and has always had its own
category: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv/categories/audiodescribed
which is listed right on the front page in the categories section.

If it's in the audio described category, it has audio description.

Now, you wrote "the regular bib iplayer"... I don't know what bib is,
it is a set top box? All STB's SHOULD conform to the iplayer spec. If
not, kick some ass!

That is what I understand to be the situation.
the regular bib Iplayer does not transmit audio description.
It is only available on live transmission and via webbie.

Sorry all I did really confuse people.
I can get Audio Description on my TV both on Freeview and SKY.
Audio description is permanently on with my TV and everything we connect to
it.
My sighted pal was staying for the weekend and he turned on I-Player on my
TV.
It would appear as Jeff says the BBC does not provide audio description on
the I-Player unless you access it on a computer through Webbie.
My neighbour's son is also blind and he confirmed this to me about half an
hour ago.
What is worse is that the problem has not been resolved by the new internet
TV box which is part funded by the BBC.
As I write this it sounds unbelievable so I am going to write to the BBC.
I hope I am not misinforming people, or rather I hope I am as it seems
dreadful if it is true.
