Pity it is not available for Word. Thank you for such a long and comprehensive response. You can load it up in less than a minute on a broadband connection. I I was paying for it before but don't see the point because the only difference was that I was getting the Samobile network and Neospeech voices along with it. I use my own Eloquence voices which are IBM and I prefer them to Neospeech. Ok then I thought do I really need the network as I only ever used it for the MSN which is much more easier than your standard MSN application. I wasn't that bothered about it so I stopped paying for something I didn't really need. As long as the free version is available then that's what I'll keep using and it's serving my needs well. Eleanor ----- Original Message ----- From: Saqib To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, August 26, 2009 11:34 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Apple (United Kingdom) - Mac OS X Snow Leopard - Accessibility I've got Jaws at home and you know what? I still end up using the free version of System Access. It's faster and more reliable for the tasks I carry out. Give me a proper screen reader any day of the week and that is System Access. It just flies off the bat. Their cheapest laptop is £749.00. However, if you only invest in laptops then it might be a good buy for you as you are getting speech out of the box for the same price as you would pay for JFW. Also, there are some definite advantages to having a laptop that has all parts and software created by one company - such as all hardware and software work extremely well together. However, it can be harder to get your Mac fixed as you cannot simply go to any PC store. You could fix your Mac yourself, it is apparently easy enough to do but this is something that Apple discourage. On the software side however, the Mac OS X is compitable with Windows and there is a lot of accessible software for Voice Over - the Mac Screen Reader. In fact, an advantage to have a Screen Reader built directly into the operating system is that it is far easier for developers to make their applications work with Voice Over without the need for special scripts. I hope this helps a little Take care james, Lyn, Nash and Twinny ----- Original Message ----- From: Carol Pearson To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, August 25, 2009 5:17 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Apple (United Kingdom) - Mac OS X Snow Leopard - Accessibility Gordon, I found that article interesting. So, if I go into a shop selling an Apple Mac, I can have speech out of the box right away? At what kind of price? I'm getting interested now, though I wouldn't say keen to throw out all I've learned so far or to pay heavily for new gear. -- Carol carol.pearson29@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx On Twitter: http://twitter.com/songbird49a ---- Original Message ---- From: Gordon Keen To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, August 25, 2009 4:17 PM Subject: [access-uk] Apple (United Kingdom) - Mac OS X Snow Leopard - Accessibility > Snow Leopard is to be released earlier than expected, > what other operating system company could say that, on > Friday 28th August. > > > Here's a link to the accessibility page. > > > http://www.apple.com/uk/macosx/accessibility/?cid=CDM-EU-25741 > > > > > Regards > > > G > > > From glorious Devon, England. __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4367 (20090825) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I am using the Free version of SPAMfighter.
