I've got one. Apple TV isn't a television set. It's a tiny little box which can sit in the palm of your hand. It connects to your TV with an HDMI cable. Note that it only has a digital audio out, not regular phono output. I did the voiceover update on my Apple TV gizmo last night and spent a few hours surfing through iTunes rental store, watching preview clips and also watching clips on YouTube. For some reason I dug out lots of old Tony Hancock clips. It was a nice user interface though there are some little bits where the data overwhelms you a little but that will come with usage. It is by far the most accessible set top box available. The only trouble is that there is very little to watch on it if you're in the UK. If you're in the US you also get Netflix which is a movies on demand service. It'd be nice to think that BBC iPlayer, ITV player, 4OD, LoveFilm and others would come to this platform because it is beautifully accessible. But I can't see it happening with Apple's rather protectionist walled garden approach to selling content. Note you can also stream iTunes from your computer, iPod Touch or iPhone using the new Airplay feature. So it could be a nice way of getting your music onto a digital amp hifi. ...Damon -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Tristram Llewellyn Sent: 23 November 2010 15:41 To: 'access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [access-uk] Re: Apple TV with Voice Over Support The Apple TV is itself very small indeed, smaller than most set top boxes even. The VoiceOver demo is impressive. I have been toying with getting one but would have to look at pricing which is an important consideration as the box itself which is actually a steal at current price. Regards.
