Graham, I did email the makers of the Newsbridge to point out my concerns about the audio production and duplication software. That was four or five days ago, and stil no reply. I shall try again, but a lack of willingness to communicate says to me they either cannot be bothered to communicate or they're 'blind' to the issue of the software's usability by VI people. There would, of course be alternatives for recording, but I believe very strongly that anyone working to meet our needs should treat us with respect not just as users of talking newspaper s but as people who do want to join in providing the service themselves. Maybe we're seen as simply passive recipients? The none-recording question of the speaker units is something that could be addresssed, but there's no reason why a talking newspaper shouldn't hold onto a cassette machine for playing in contributions from those wanting to send them in this way. It is good that there's some interest in this subject, and I hope someone will report to us if and when they get to handle the portable players. Cheers, From Ray I can be contacted off-list at: mailto:ray-48@xxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- Graham Page also, users often make recordings back to talking newspapers when they want to make a comment or submit features of their own. the ability to record using the newsbridge loud speaker unit would also need to be available if this product is to replace the cassette. Of course, as this is meant as an accessible product, the recording software should be accessible. I would go as far as to say that if the software is mouse driven then I would treat any claims made about the product with caution as if the recording program is not accessible than clearly the developer does not really understand the needs of possible users of this product.
