Interesting points Ray. It's been mentioned here in detail about configuring window-eyes and jaws to aleaviate (I can't spell here) this problem.

However, zoomtext's speach doesn't have the array of configuration options that lone screen readers do. So, zoomtext users who do use the zt screen reader as well would have to work around this - play deaf to the word transparent, easier said than done *smile*.

Understandable that magnification users wouldn't come to mind here. Mangification only users can access this particular site much same as sighted users. The sites fonts seem big and bold. Probobly comfortable for some to read and not to others maybe. Doesn't much matter to someone here who finds reading off screen problematic rather than impossible.

I've come across the odd website oddity in the past *smile*.

Thanks very much for this contribution Justin. I had realised the word
'transparent' was actually there, written out, and I think it is meant to
signal some sort of control or link that can be activated. The position of
ZT and other magnification package users, strangely, hadn't occured to me.

GW Micro pointed me to an MS Knowledge base article, which in part says:

"Symptom: Web pages containing accessible ActiveX controls (like Flash) no
longer read automatically, and instead display a control called "inactive
button" which, when pressed, simply turns off browse mode.

Cause: A security update from Microsoft (specifically QFE912945) changes the
way Internet Explorer handles web pages that use ActiveX. This new behavior
requires ActiveX controls (loaded through default methods such as APPLET,
EMBED, or OBJECT) to be activated by the user before they can be used. "

Now, I don't really understand all of that, but it does seem that altering
certain settings in Window-Eyes and JAWS - in its case via the latest scripts
no doubt - the problem can be overcome.

Still, it does seem that things are less than perfect on the site's side.

I think a knowledgable person, such as Tink can tell them exactly what they
should be doing and not to do what they are doing.

: Ray, had a look at this myself. Speaking as one person who's a magnifier
: and screan reader user what I'm seeing and hearing is interesting.
:
: Yep, the webpage is reading the text fine. However, app reader (zoomtext)
: is reading out the blank areas inbetween text. That's where I'm hearing
the
: word "transparent".
:
: I could get by on this but, I'd find it distracting in the end. So, not
: helpful at all. I'm pondering on whether to send the website address to
: aisquared support. I'd be interested to know what they make of this.
:
: The first time I've hit on a website where app reader behaves in this way.
