I find the sound quality really good where I live. For me, it's much better
than fj, though I agree that the BBC really went wrong in choosing a high
compression rate. I live in Northeast England. when I was in Hereford the
sound was terrible. I don't think there's many transmitters there, so it
was breaking up terribly.

Hi Sunil,

Actually, no. I reckon it is better than the Evoke 1 for quality, but I
personally don't like the quality of DAB anyway. Everyone raves about the
fact that there is no hiss and all that, but the bit rate that even the Beeb
use is terrible. I think only Radio 3 use 192K compression, which is barely
acceptable for radio. I have a Sony 77SE, which is a DAB and an FM radio,
and when I do comparisons, FM is nearly always streets ahead of DAB. The
only way to get decent quality radio in my opinion now, apart from FM, is
through Sky and Freeview, though I think Sky has the edge.

All the best

I hope you shift lorry loads of them Steve. I've got a few too many hours
to kill at the moment and tried to kill a few minutes posting a crap
message. I'm genuinely curious about one aspect of this radio though, how
good is the sound quality? I've heard loads of digital radios browsing
around Dixons and Comet and the sound quality has been overwhelmingly
terrible. I know this is because the sound is so heavily compressed, but
one radio, can't remember the make, did sound noticeably better than all the
other ones when I flicked through the stations. Does this new radio sound
like its buried beneath a heap of woolly blankets?
